NEW YORK (AP) The NFL will look into adding targeting as a specific category for video review.
Troy Vincent Cassius Marsh Super Bowl LI Jersey , the league’s football operations chief, says it is on the agenda to discuss with the competition committee and the players’ union after the season.
In responding to questions about helmet-to-helmet hits and players launching to make tackles, Vincent said Wednesday that the NFL has seen targeting reviews ”work to a degree” in the college game.
Article continues below ... ”I think it is something that we have to consider,” Vincent said. ”We’ve seen that it has worked to a certain degree, it’s clean. … We think there have been some positives and we have talked to some of the conferences and the officials there, as well as with some student-athletes. It is a deterrent and something that we will consider; it is one of our agenda items to discuss during the offseason as we speak to the coaches and the competition committee.
”It needs to be discussed because there are a lot of other ramifications that come along with that. It is on our agenda to be discussed beginning in February.”
Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap wants no part of the college’s targeting ejection system.
”I don’t want to do all that. I think they go overboard in college with the ejections,” he said. ”You know some of them are football plays. If a kid gets ejected for that Wholesale Dalton Schultz Jersey , I don’t think that’s right. But they don’t have fines in college, so I don’t know how you handle that one.”
Vincent also noted that coaches, general managers, owners and players are adamant about not wanting players ejected from games unless there is no other option.
”We don’t want to be in the business of ejecting players,” Vincent said. ”There are only 17 weeks and the philosophy is, if it gets out of control, we ask the referees to maintain control of the game Adidas Henrik Lundqvist Jersey , give them that flexibility. They have that flexibility, but we really emphasize let the players play, but if things begin to get out of control, you must maintain control of the game during that window.”
There have been nine suspensions in 2017 for on-field acts. Ejections are much rarer, of course.
”We have had clear directives from the competition committee,” Vincent said. ”They asked us and the players to remove some of the helmet-to-helmet hits that we have seen, as well of some of the blindside blocks and other types of disparaging techniques and behaviors on the field.
”We have clear directive that this is not something that should be progressive Kareem Martin Jersey Elite , but that we strongly consider removing a player that is using these techniques that we want out of our game immediately.”
The league also will consider adding a category for non-football acts that break the rules, such as Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski’s hit on Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White.
Gronkowski drew a one-game suspension under unnecessary roughness guidelines. White is in the league’s concussion protocol.
”We’ve seen a few of these on occasion. It’s something that Jon (Runyan, who handles some NFL disciplinary cases) has raised to myself, and he’s actually raised to the appeals officers,” Vincent said.
”He’ll bring that up in February when we begin meeting with our competition committee, our coaches’ subcommittee and our GMs. We will also bring this up with the NFL Players Association, but it is something that we do need to review.”
Asked about potential mixed messages the NFL could be sending when it suspends Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and Bengals safety George Iloka one game apiece for egregious hits in Monday night’s game Wholesale Durham Smythe Jersey , then changes Iloka’s discipline to only a fine on appeal, Vincent insisted the appeals reviews have been ”very consistent, fair and firm.” He emphasized that appeals officers James Thrash and Derrick Brooks are employees of the league and the union.
”I just think they try to send a message more than anything,” Steelers player representative Ramon Foster said. ”They screwed it up. You say you’re concerned over player safety, but you had a guy who blatantly had a helmet to helmet and didn’t get suspended. You had a guy that just did a taunting and you try to justify it by suspending him. That’s not player safety.
”Then you have another situation where a guy plows into another guy and you suspend him for one game. Why one game? Why not multiple games? Because the Steelers play the Patriots next week.”

BOSTON (AP) The Boston area’s five professional sports teams are telling their fans to take a stand against racism and discrimination.
In a new initiative they’re calling ”Take the Lead Authentic Mason Rudolph Jersey ,” the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, and Revolution are joining to fight against hate speech that has sometimes bled into their sports venues.
The project includes a public service announcement featuring a montage of athletes telling fans to ”stand for our teams but don’t stand for racism.”
Article continues below ... ”It starts here in our house – if you hear something wrong Rashaan Evans Jersey Elite , offensive or hateful, speak up, say something,” athletes say in the video. ”If we all take the lead together, hate falls behind.”
Among those featured in the announcement are the Patriots’ Devin McCourty Josh Sweat Super Bowl LI Jersey , the Red Sox’s Dustin Pedroia and the Bruins’ Patrice Bergeron.
The minute-long video will be played during events at Fenway, Gillette Stadium and the TD Garden, and has already been viewed hundreds of times on social media websites.
Red Sox owner John Henry said in a statement that he mistakenly believed that the country’s ”less than stellar pasts were firmly behind us,” but that the project starts a dialogue that ”will place us on the right side of history.”
”Our sports teams, our athletes Wholesale James Washington Jersey , are woven into the fabric of our society,” Hendry said. ”For that reason, we cannot remain silent nor still.”
The project is being launched at a time when the nation’s racial tensions are increasingly colliding with the world of sports.
Dozens of football players across the NFL knelt or linked arms during the national anthem on Sunday in a show of defiance after President Donald Trump criticized that form of protest.
And Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy previously said the Boston-area collaboration was sparked by two racist incidents at Fenway Park in May, including one in which an opposing player was called a racial slur.
The project was unveiled Thursday at a Fenway Park event that featured a conversation on race led by executives and former athletes for the teams.
Former Celtics forward Cedric Maxwell said sports can be used to overcome racism and that he was ”appalled” that Trump criticized athletes who use their celebrity to protest racial injustice.
During a speech introducing the event, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said the initiative has the power to combat racism and discrimination outside the confines of sports.
”The power of sports is bringing a lot of conversation to the United States of America right now James Washington Jersey Elite ,” Walsh said, according to WBZ-TV. ”The conversation isn’t just about an incident that happened at Fenway Park, it’s about what’s happening in our city every single day.”
Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman now has something in common with Boston Bruins counterpart Don Sweeney.
They both tapped the New York Rangers before the NHL trade deadline Monday.
A day after the Bruins landed power forward Rick Nash from the Rangers Wholesale Paul Worrilow Jersey , the Lightning followed suit by acquiring New York captain Ryan McDonagh in a multiplayer trade.
Article continues below ... ”We take note and we look around, and we feel the moves made in our conference, those teams are better,” Yzerman said shortly before the NHL-leading Lightning played at Toronto. ”But our moves were not to keep up with the Jones.”
Whatever Yzerman’s motive, it didn’t matter to Rangers GM Jeff Gorton as he continued to overhaul an aging roster.
New York also sent forward J.T. Miller to Tampa Bay in a deal that netted the Rangers forward Vladimir Namestnikov, two prospects and two draft picks: a first-round selection in 2018 and a conditional first-rounder in 2019.
”Just trying to take it all in,” Gorton said. ”We have a lot of new players, a lot of new faces, and we’re looking forward to the opportunity as we go forward.”
The rebuilding Rangers now have three first-round picks Wholesale Minkah Fitzpatrick Jersey , including one from the Bruins, in this year’s draft and seven in the first three rounds.
The 28-year-old McDonagh joins a Lightning lineup already well-stocked with elite defensemen. Miller is a two-time 20-goal scorer.
”You’re always looking at ways to try and improve your team,” Yzerman said. ”Whatever we were going to do was to improve it and not do it at an outlandish price.”
The Lightning weren’t the only contender to part with high draft picks among the 18 trades made on Monday.
The Winnipeg Jets gave up a first-rounder as part of a trade to acquire forward Paul Stastny, a six-time 20-goal scorer, in a trade with St. Louis.
”Incredibly excited when I first caught wind of it being a possibility, and even the possibility was really exciting,” Jets forward Blake Wheeler said of adding Stastny. ”A really, really great addition.”
The Nashville Predators gave up a first-round pick as part of a deal to land forward Ryan Hartman from the Chicago Blackhawks.
And the expansion Vegas Golden Knights added to their Western Conference-leading team by acquiring three-time 20-goal-scoring forward Tomas Tatar from Detroit. The Red Wings added three draft picks, including a first-round selection.
The San Jose Sharks added size and scoring by acquiring Evander Kane from Buffalo for two picks Taven Bryan Jersey Elite , including a conditional 2019 first-round selection, and a prospect.
The four first-round picks swapped – not including the two conditional selections – were the most to move on the final day of NHL trading since at least 2008, according to league figures. And no first-rounders had moved on each of the previous two trade-deadline days.
Sharks general manager Doug Wilson attributed the amount of high draft picks swapped to how tight the playoff races are, particularly in the Western Conference. Before games on Monday, six points separated the Sharks, who sit second in the Pacific Division standings, and Colorado, which is 11th in the West.
”It’s supply and demand of those players that can make a difference,” Wilson said. ”Some people would say pricey Authentic Kerryon Johnson Jersey , but it almost always is pricey at this time of year when you have competitive juices flowing.”
Not all teams found takers.
The Ottawa Senators were unable to move captain Erik Karlsson, a two-time Norris Trophy winner who will be making $7.5 million in the final year of his contract.
General manager Pierre Dorion acknowledged he fielded offers on every player over the past few months. When it came to Karlsson, Dorion said there was no ”franchise deal out there” for his franchise player.
Even Sabres general manager Jason Botterill acknowledged having difficulty finding a trade partner for Kane, who is completing the final year of his contract.
”The bottom line is we had one legitimate offer for Evander and that’s why we worked off of it with San Jose,” he said.
The teams who began the day holding the East’s final two playoff spots made deals.
Eighth-place Columbus acquired veteran forward Thomas Vanek from Vancouver and veteran defenseman Ian Cole from Ottawa.
The seventh-place New Jersey Devils obtained forward Patrick Maroon from Edmonton for a 2019 third-round pick and prospect J.D. Dudek.
Three teams added players via waivers.
The Philadelphia Flyers claimed Johnny Oduya after the two-time Stanley Cup-winning defenseman was waived by Ottawa. The Flyers, who have won five straight and are 9-0-2 in their past 11 games, lost defenseman Mark Alt, who was claimed on waivers by Colorado. And the Calgary Flames added forward depth by claiming Chris Stewart, who was waived by Minnesota.

Justin Williams scored two goals, Cam Ward stopped 21 shots and the Carolina Hurricanes snapped a six-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night.
Article continues below ... The Flyers had been the hottest team in hockey, winners of six straight overall and riding a 10-0-2 streak for their longest span without a regulation loss since 2003.
They were even 4-0-1 against the Hurricanes in their last five against them at home.
Carolina had an emotional lift in this one to make those numbers trivial
Staal played for the first time since he and his wife said their infant daughter died of a terminal birth defect. Staal had missed three games and he rejoined the team Wednesday.
”He’s a lift, spiritually and physically on the ice,” Williams said. ”You know he’s going to make the right play. You know he’s going to win a battle. As his linemate Tracy Walker Jersey Elite , playing tonight, you know he’s going to get the puck to you when it’s a 1-on-1 battle. He’s a very important piece for us, clearly.”
Hurricanes coach Bill Peters said Staal means more to the franchise than just his numbers.
”You need your best players to be your best players and we miss him when he’s not here,” he said. ”It’s good to have him back.”
Williams knocked in a loose puck 4:40 into the game and the former Flyer stuck it to his former team one more time.
”There’s a little something there,” Williams said. ”It’s special. My wife’s family is from here. I have a lot of friends here. This is where I started. It’s always special, absolutely.”
The Flyers sizzling offense of late fizzled and even goalie Petr Mrazek had his worst outing since he was acquired two weeks ago. He stopped 28 shots to beat Montreal 1-0 in a shootout in his last start. He was 3-0 with a 1.30 goals-against average and a .947 save percentage in his three starts.
Teuvo Teravainen scored early in the second and Williams scored his 12th goal of the season late in the second for the 3-0 lead.
Staal had his 21st assist on Williams’ second goal.
”I don’t think there’s much to be said about what he’s going through. It’s huge to have him back,” Hurricanes defenseman Justin Faulk said.
The Flyers were stymied offensively and took only six shots in the first period. In the second, they were shutout in a period where they had scored 74 goals this season.
Yes Adrian Clayborn Super Bowl LI Jersey , even a 12-game streak that helped take them from last in the Metro Division in early December to a brief stop in first atop the division, the Flyers were soundly booed off the ice at the end of a dreary second period. The Flyers would have moved back into first place with a victory and lost for the first time in regulation since Feb. 1.
Flyers defenseman Andrew MacDonald said the winning had masked some bad habits picked up of late by the team.
”You kind of get into a groove and you’re kind of feeling it and think things are going to go right for you,” he said. ”That’s not always going to be the case. Tonight was a good example of that.”
Travis Konecny gave a brief jolt to their offense with a goal early in the third to make it 3-1.
”It’s tough to do this on home ice. We can’t win them all,” Flyers center Jake Voracek said.
Sebastian Aho sealed it with his 23rd goal.
”We need to impose our will. We need to suffocate teams,” Williams said. ”We did that today.”

It will be the first of two meetings at the Air Canada Centre between the teams after they split two in Buffalo this month.
The teams are going in different directions. The Maple Leafs sit third in the Eastern Conference and are gearing up for the playoffs. The Sabres set their sights on next season.

They previously won 45 games in a season in 1998-99 Dalton Schultz Super Bowl LI Jersey , 1999-00 and 2003-04. They also have tied the franchise record for home wins in a season at 26.
“It’s nice and you want to win every night at home,” Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock said. “I don’t spend a whole lot of time thinking about that stuff. I just said we’re trying to get prepared.
“You don’t know how good your opportunity is, you never know when your time is coming. I’ve been in this league a long time, thought I had lots of good teams and I like our team. So let’s get prepared and let’s get better than we have, and you never know.”

Sabres right winger Sam Reinhart scored his 20th goal of the season on Saturday to end a drought of three games without a point. “It would have been nicer to have that one impact the game a little more,” he said.

As well as the Maple Leafs have played, they have been unable to overtake the first-place Tampa Bay Lightning or the second-place Boston Bruins in the conference. Babcock said it is not a source of frustration.
“I don’t know why you’d be frustrated about anything,” Babcock said. “It seems like a waste of time to me. I don’t know. To me, that isn’t what it’s about. To me Adidas Bo Horvat Jersey , it’s about preparation for the tournament.

Better Biking Than Ever
The explosion in popularity of road biking聽in the last decade has meant new products and new technology that have improved biking enormously. New "flatless" tires reduce the risk of puncture on the road to absolute minimum. The emergence of "comfort bikes" and recumbent bicycles with full backrests and plush seats has totally taken the pain out of riding for older bodies. And there's so much more.
On the other hand, there's more traffic and it's going faster. And Adidas Nikita Kucherov Jersey , in city area, drivers aren't expecting to see a lot of cyclists. Utility bikers generally take safety more seriously than road bikers, many of whom tend to rely on speed and superhero costumes to keep them from harm. Locking Your Bike
One of the problems you'll face as a utility cyclist is a lack of secure facilities for your bike at the stores you visit. Few stores have bike racks; frequently you'll need to find a tree or pillar to lock your bike to. Fortunately, there are relatively few areas where you can expect vandalism, so theft and damage problems are really minimal.
Mostly you'll have to protect yourself against grab and run thieves Authentic Logan Woodside Jersey , and this can be done by securing your frame. OWINGS MILLS Donte Jackson Super Bowl LI Jersey , Md. (AP) During an up and down season for the Baltimore Ravens, getting a solid performance by their special teams has been the one steady constant.
The accuracy of place kicker Justin Tucker and precise punting of Sam Koch is nothing new. They’re both former Pro Bowl starters, so their effectiveness is almost a given.
The kick return units have been equally impressive. Bobby Rainey and Michael Campanaro have conjured memories of Jacoby Jones, who wowed Ravens fans from 2012-14 with his ability to take it to the house.
Article continues below ... In an overtime loss to Chicago last week, Rainey and Campanaro came close to offsetting a poor outing by Baltimore’s offense and defense. Rainey returned a kickoff 96 yards and Campanaro tied it with 1:37 left in regulation by taking punt 77 yards for a score.
It was the first time in team history the Ravens took a kickoff and punt for a touchdown in the same game.
Throw in a 50-yard field goal by Tucker and Koch’s 55-yard average for seven punts, and it was just another banner day for special teams coach Jerry Rosburg and his well-oiled unit.
”They are probably the best special teams unit in the league Sam Darnold Super Bowl LI Jersey ,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Wednesday. ”I know Jerry Rosburg does an unbelievable job, always has. They’ve got the two best specialists in the league. They returned a kick for a touchdown, a punt for a touchdown. They have great cover units.”
Minnesota (4-2) is gearing up to limit the big plays Sunday against the Ravens (3-3).
”That will be a big test for us to be able to match up with their special teams,” Zimmer acknowledged.
The Ravens rank first in the NFL with a 31.9 yards per return average on kickoff returns. Since John Harbaugh took over in 2008, Baltimore ranks first in the league with a 25.3 average.
The latest big return was one of the strangest. Rainey tripped over a teammate, bounced back up and ran to the end zone for his first NFL touchdown while the bewildered Bears wondered what was going on.
Most times, though, the Ravens effectively return kickoffs in a more conventional manner.
”It’s the scheme, and the guys in that scheme,” Rainey said Wednesday. ”They do a good job of blocking Authentic Armani Watts Jersey , and not just on kickoff returns. They do it on punt returns, too. Special teams are very important to us, so we try our best to get it right.”
Jones took back four kickoffs for TDs with the Ravens and added a 108-yarder in the Super Bowl. Rainey is not yet ready to be considered the heir apparent, but he’s certainly earned the right to stick around after being signed to the roster in the days leading up to Sunday’s game.
”Jacoby and I are two different players. Jacoby was way faster,” Rainey said. ”I’m more of a downhill type of guy. But that works for me.”
Drafted in the seventh round of the 2014 draft, Campanaro was sidelined by a variety of injuries in his first three seasons. He played in only 11 games over three seasons before getting healthy – and finally contributing – this year.
He averaged 26 yards on five punt returns Sunday. For the season Avonte Maddox Super Bowl LI Jersey , he has 14 returns for 193 yards, nine receptions and three times for 14 yards.
”Michael has had battles with injuries that have really plagued him throughout his tenure here,” Harbaugh said. ”But to see him step up now and start making those plays -that punt return was a huge play in the game. He ran it exceptionally well. Really, all the punt returns, he did a good job. It was good to see that.”

It’s amazing what a good game in the playoffs can do for a veteran goaltender relegated to a backup role over the past month because Keith Kinkaid had been playing so well in leading the Devils to their first playoff berth since 2012.
The 32-year-old Schneider got his chance to play in a meaningful game when the Tampa Bay Lightning smoked the Devils in the opening two games of the first-round series, outscoring them 10-5.
Article continues below ... The Devils turned to Schneider for Game 3 on Monday night and he made the most of it. He stopped 34 shots in a 5-2 win that allowed New Jersey to cut the Lightning lead in the series to 2-1 with Game 4 scheduled for Wednesday night.
It was his first win since late December and snapped a 0-10-2 personal skid for the likable Devils’ mainstay who was never the same in the final months of the season after sustaining hip and groin injuries in the latter part of January.
”Your job in these situations is to come in and win,” Schneider said Tuesday after not taking part in a skate mostly for players who were scratched on Monday.
”I have said all along, I haven’t tried to veer from what I have been doing. It hasn’t gone my way recently for a number of reasons we don’t have to get into. I just viewed the playoffs as a fresh start Authentic Da'Shawn Hand Jersey , a new season and it didn’t matter what happened before.”
Schneider said there was no need to carry an extra baggage into the playoffs. He was just excited to have a chance to rise to the challenge. He did and so did his teammates in rallying for four third-period goals to get back into the series.
Devils coach John Hynes would not say on Tuesday whether Schneider would start, but it seems a good bet he will.
Hynes said going with Schneider – his No. 1 goaltender the past three seasons- in Game 3 was not a gamble. He had wanted to play him down the stretch of the regular season but Kinkaid was too hot, going 10-1-1 in the 12 games that led to the Devils clinching a playoff berth.
”We felt as a group that Cory had worked hard, he looked good in practice and you could tell that he was itching to play Wholesale Kolton Miller Jersey ,” Hynes said. ”It just seemed the way the series was going, let’s give him an opportunity to play. I think he was fresh and hungry.”
Hynes said it was nice to see him play well because of how he handled not being the backup, a job that doesn’t attract the media to your locker.
When Schneider came out on Tuesday, a crowd quickly surrounded him.
Brian Boyle Adidas Jonathan Drouin Jersey , who has more playoff experience than any player on the Devils roster, said having Schneider play well will push Kinkaid.
”There is a lot of internal competition,” Boyle said. ”Guys want to get out and play. Those two want the net. They want to play, and when you play Ed Dickson Jersey Elite , you want to play more. If you channel energies the right way it will bring position energies for your team.”
The goal for the Devils and Schneider will be to repeat their efforts in Game 4.
”That game is done with. It’s over,” Schneider said of Game 3. ”It doesn’t matter how good you feel about it afterward. It all depends on how you come out the next game. We know they are going to regroup and be ready for us so it should be a good battle.”
Mark Stone and Bobby Ryan scored in the third period and the Senators held off the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 on Friday night.
Derick Brassard, Nick Paul and Matt Duchene also scored for the Senators, and Mike Condon made 21 saves to help Ottawa snap a four-game losing streak.
Article continues below ... ”We capitalized on the scoring chances we had and we did a better job finding the back of the net and that’s something we’ve been missing for quite some time now,” Senators captain Erik Karlsson said. ”The guys still know what they’re doing and hopefully they get a little bit of relief and some belief in themselves.”
Stone scored at 7:41 and Ryan at 9:21 for a two-goal advantage as the Sens broke a 3-3 tie.
Zach Werenski scored on the power play with 32 seconds left for the Blue Jackets. Sonny Milano struck twice Adrian Clayborn Super Bowl LI Jersey , and Josh Anderson also scored. Sergei Bobrovsky made 23 saves in a failed bid for his 200th victory.
”After they scored those two goals at the end of the second period, it gave them life,” Werenski said. ”We just didn’t come out strong in the third period and they did. We talked about it between periods, that it’s going to happen Chukwuma Okorafor Super Bowl LI Jersey , it’s a tied hockey game and the next one’s huge and we didn’t elevate our game so it’s kind of our fault.”
There was no scoring in the first period, although both sides had a short-handed breakaway.
A total of six goals were scored in the second, four in a 3:09 span.
Milano scored his first at 4:15 when he put a rebound off the end boards past Condon a second after a penalty to Ryan expired.
The Senators got that one back at 5:42 when Brassard stole the puck from Jordan Schroeder at the side of the net and eventually put a backhander past Bobrovsky.
Anderson and Milano scored 13 seconds apart. Anderson beat Condon first from the faceoff dot to the left of the netminder, and Milno connected from the same spot to his right.
Bobrovsky then gave Paul his first goal of the season at 14:14 to cut the lead to 3-2. Paul sent a weak shot toward the net that Bobrovsky redirected off his stick Wholesale Quenton Nelson Jersey , through his legs and in.
”If we’re not able to get our game back and get some kind of push going after that goal, then there’s major problems,” Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said.
Duchene then tied it at 18:52 when he faked forehand before beating Bobrovsky with a backhand on a breakaway.

Palmer announced his retirement after 15 NFL seasons on Tuesday in an open letter released by Cardinals, one day after Arians said he was leaving his long coaching career.
Article continues below ... ”Over the years, I’ve had teammates who decided to hang it up and I would ask them how they knew when it was time to walk away,” the letter began. ”The answer was almost always the same: You just know. For me, it is time now. Why? Quite simply, I just know.”
Palmer, who turned 38 last week, made the announcement in an open letter released Tuesday by the Cardinals. Palmer missed the last nine games of what would be his final season with a broken left arm.
He called his long professional career ”the most incredible experience of my life.”
Palmer and Arians were together the past five seasons, and they included some of the best days of the quarterback’s career.
Standing 6-foot-5 with a remarkably strong arm, Palmer was a Heisman Trophy winner at USC and the No. 1-overall pick by Cincinnati in 2002. He threw for 46 Kareem Martin Jersey Elite ,247 yards, 12th-most in NFL history, in a career with the Bengals, Oakland and Arizona.
”When I entered the league, I was a 23-year-old kid,” Palmer wrote. ”I’m leaving a 38-year-old husband and father of four with memories and experiences that I will treasure for the rest of my life. And like most things in life, it feels like it all passed in a blink of an eye.”
Acquired by the Cardinals for only a sixth-round pick and a swap of seventh-rounders, Palmer’s strong arm was a great fit for Arians’ ”no risk it, no biscuit” big-play passing game.
Palmer twice came back from torn ACL injuries. The first occurred in his playoff debut for Cincinnati in 2005. He was hurt on his first pass, a 66-yard completion. The second came in the sixth game of the 2014 season.
Palmer returned from that one to have probably the best year of his career. In 2015 Authentic Darius Leonard Jersey , he set single-season franchise records and career highs for yards passing (4,671) and touchdowns (35) while leading the Cardinals to a 13-3 record, second-best in the NFC. He won his only playoff game in four tries that season, in overtime over Green Bay.
”My family and I are beyond grateful for everything the game has given us as well as the love and support we’ve felt from fans everywhere we’ve been,” he said. ”That’s been especially true in Arizona, where we never expected to end up but wound up being such a special place for us.”
Cardinals center A.Q. Shipley, through Twitter, congratulated Palmer on ”one hell of a career.”
”My favorite all-time teammate is walking away on his terms,” Shipley said. ”Not many people have that opportunity. It’s been an honor and a privilege to block for you and be your teammate. Enjoy retirement brother!”
”They have taught me so much on/off the field,” Johnson wrote. ”I seriously owe so much to Carson & (at)BruceArians for how they have gotten me to where I am in my career/life today. I wish you all the best as you start the next stages of life!”
Palmer, with a career 62.5 percent completion rate, leaves as the only quarterback to throw for more than 4,000 yards in a season with three teams. He did it twice for Cincinnati, once for Oakland and three times with Arizona.
Palmer spent seven years with the Bengals, leaving in a dispute with owner Mike Brown that led him to hold out to start the 2011 season, saying he would retire if he wasn’t traded.
He eventually was dealt to Oakland for considerable compensation – a first-round draft pick in 2012 and second-rounder in 2013. Palmer started nine games for the Raiders that season. He put up big numbers with the Raiders but there was little success in wins and losses. Oakland eventually deemed him expendable and sent him to Arizona without much in return.
In addition to the two ACL injuries and this season’s broken arm, Palmer also was limited to four games in 2004 with an elbow injury and missed time with a concussion and shoulder injury in Arizona.
Still, Palmer said he would ”especially miss the grind” of being an NFL player.
”It’s the part I don’t think people fully appreciate Ryan Jensen Jersey Elite ,” he wrote, ”maybe because many NFL players make the game look so easy and effortless. The mental and physical preparation it takes to compete – week in and week out, year in and year out – is draining and grueling but has always been my favorite part.”
Now, Cardinals President Michael Bidwill and general manager Steve Keim are looking for a new coach and a new quarterback.
Several interviews for the coaching job reportedly have been lined up. Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that the Cardinals had received permission to talk to Steelers offensive line coach and former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak.
The departures of Arians and Palmer leave Larry Fitzgerald as the lone remaining member of the triumvirate that represented the core of the Cardinals’ push for a title the past five years.
Fitzgerald, 34, caught 109 passes this season, second-most in the NFL, and has a contract for next season. But he has said he will take some time before deciding whether to return.
MIAMI (AP) H. Wayne Huizenga Mike Hughes Super Bowl LI Jersey , a college dropout who built a business empire that included Blockbuster Entertainment, AutoNation and three professional sports franchises, has died. He was 80.
Huizenga (HY’-zing-ah) died Thursday night at his home, said Valerie Hinkell, a longtime assistant. The cause was cancer, said Bob Henninger, executive vice president of Huizenga Holdings.
Starting with a single garbage truck in 1968, Huizenga built Waste Management Inc. into a Fortune 500 company. He purchased independent sanitation engineering companies, and by the time he took the company public in 1972, he had completed the acquisition of 133 small-time haulers. By 1983, Waste Management was the largest waste disposal company in the United States.
Article continues below ... The business model worked again with Blockbuster Video, which he started in 1985 and built into the leading movie rental chain nine years later. In 1996 Authentic Courtland Sutton Jersey , he formed AutoNation and built it into a Fortune 500 company.
Huizenga was founding owner of baseball’s Florida Marlins and the NHL’s Florida Panthers – expansion teams that played their first games in 1993. He bought the NFL’s Miami Dolphins and their stadium for $168 million in 1994 from the children of founder Joe Robbie but had sold all three teams by 2009.
”Wayne Huizenga was a seminal figure in the cultural history of South Florida,” current Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said in a statement. ”He completely changed the landscape of the region’s sports scene. … Sports fans throughout the region owe him a debt of thanks.”
The Marlins won the 1997 World Series, and the Panthers reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 1996, but Huizenga’s beloved Dolphins never reached a Super Bowl while he owned the team.
”If I have one disappointment, the disappointment would be that we did not bring a championship home,” Huizenga said shortly after he sold the Dolphins to Ross. ”It’s something we failed to do.”
Huizenga earned an almost cult-like following among business investors who watched him build Blockbuster Entertainment into the leading video rental chain by snapping up competitors. He cracked Forbes’ list of the 100 richest Americans, becoming chairman of Republic Services, one of the nation’s top waste management companies, and AutoNation, the nation’s largest automotive retailer. In 2013, Forbes estimated his wealth at $2.5 billion.
For a time, Huizenga was also a favorite with South Florida sports fans Wholesale Sam Darnold Jersey , drawing cheers and autograph seekers in public. The crowd roared when he danced the hokeypokey on the field during an early Marlins game. He went on a spending spree to build a veteran team that won the World Series in the franchise’s fifth year.
But his popularity plummeted when he ordered the roster dismantled after that season. He was frustrated by poor attendance and his failure to swing a deal for a new ballpark built with taxpayer money.
Many South Florida fans never forgave him for breaking up the championship team. Huizenga drew boos when introduced at Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino’s retirement celebration in 2000 and kept a lower public profile after that.
In 2009, Huizenga said he regretted ordering the Marlins’ payroll purge.
”We lost $34 million the year we won the World Series, and I just said, `You know what, I’m not going to do that,”’ Huizenga said. ”If I had it to do over again, I’d say, `OK, we’ll go one more year.”’
He sold the Marlins in 1999 to John Henry, and sold the Panthers in 2001, unhappy with rising NHL player salaries and the stock price for the team’s public company.
Tributes from three sports and beyond poured in, reflecting the range of his reach.
”Saddened to hear about the passing of successful entrepreneur and Great Floridian Wayne Huizenga Authentic Kerryon Johnson Jersey ,” Gov. Rick Scott tweeted. ”He had a tremendous impact on our state and the world of business.”
The Marlins released a statement describing Huizenga as ”the original Florida Marlin,” and said he ”will be remembered as much for his contributions to South Florida professional sports as he was for his many charitable endeavors in the surrounding community.”
Huizenga’s first sports love was the Dolphins – he had been a season-ticket holder since their first season in 1966. But he fared better in the NFL as a businessman than as a sports fan.
He turned a nifty profit by selling the Dolphins and their stadium for $1.1 billion, nearly seven times what he paid to become sole owner. But he knew the bottom line in the NFL is championships, and his Dolphins perennially came up short.
Huizenga earned a reputation as a hands-off owner and won raves from many loyal employees, even though he made six coaching changes. He eased Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Shula into retirement in early 1996, and Jimmy Johnson, Dave Wannstedt, interim coach Jim Bates, Nick Saban, Cam Cameron and Tony Sparano followed as coach.
Johnson tweeted: ”A great man, one of the nicest individuals I have ever known, Wayne Huizenga passed away. RIP.”
Harry Wayne Huizenga was born in the Chicago suburbs on Dec. 29 Wholesale DaeSean Hamilton Jersey , 1937, to a family of garbage haulers. He began his business career in Pompano Beach in 1962, driving a garbage truck from 2 a.m. to noon each day for $500 a month.
One customer successfully sued Huizenga, saying that in an argument over a delinquent account, Huizenga injured him by grabbing his testicles – an allegation Huizenga always denied.
LAST SEASON: Rebuilding Jets were one of NFL’s early-season surprises while winning three of first five games despite some preseason prognosticators saying New York would struggle to win more than one. Todd Bowles’ bunch didn’t get many more victories and finished 5-11 for second straight season Sam Hubbard Jersey Elite , but Jets were competitive in almost all games. Players praised positive culture change stressed by Bowles, as well as leadership of quarterback Josh McCown. Both Bowles and GM Mike Maccagnan received two-year contract extensions. McCown had career year at 38, setting personal bests with 2,926 yards passing, 19 TD passes and five TD runs before missing final three games with broken left hand. THEY NEED: QB, OLB/pass rusher, D-line depth, TE.
Article continues below ... THEY DON’T NEED: S, CB, LS.
OUTLOOK: It’s all about finding right quarterback after being aggressive and trading up from No. 6 to No. 3 in deal with Indianapolis in March that also cost New York two second-rounders this year and one next year. Jets put themselves in position to get one of top three QBs, but pressure’s on Maccagnan & Co. to get pick right. New York re-signed McCown and added Teddy Bridgewater in free agency, so first-rounder won’t be pressured to start right away in new coordinator Jeremy Bates’ offense – but could give veterans run for starting job in training camp. Also appears to be end for both Christian Hackenberg (2016 second-rounder) and Bryce Petty (2015 fourth-rounder) with Jets. Maccagnan was busy in free agency Hayden Hurst Jersey Elite , adding CB Trumaine Johnson, WR Terrelle Pryor, RB Isaiah Crowell, LB Avery Williamson, K Cairo Santos and C Spencer Long.
